HOW TO USE: STARS Search

STARS Search includs: Simple(Home), Advanced and Speaker Search

--Field for searching

1. Enter Query

e.g. Enter Query: Street

Returns articles which contains 'Street' in any of the fields.

e.g. Enter Query: stock market

Returns articles which contains 'stock market' in any of the fields.

2. Date of Speech

Search for articles from a specific date (must be DD/MM/YYYY) to another specific date.

e.g. From:31/01/1980 To: 20/11/1995

This returns articles between 31/01/1980 and 20/11/1995.

3. Thesaurus on/off

Thesaurus off

The program will only search article with the same word or words entered in the query field.

Thesaurus on

The program will search for article with related words with that entered in the query field.

--Field that determine how the result list is displayed

1. Sort By Field (Relevance, Publication Date)

Relevance

Results will be arranged such that the articles with the most number of matched words found will be first on the list and the remaining of the articles arrange according to the number of related words found in descending order.

Publication Date

Results will be arranged with descending order according to the publication date.

2. Max Display

This field determines the number of article titles to be displayed per page.

HOW TO USE: Advanced Search

1. Caption/Title.

Search for articles with certain keywords in the caption. (e.g. "education")

2. Speaker.

For searching the article spoken by a selected speaker. (e.g. "Goh Chok Tong)

3. Occasion.

Search for articles from a selected type of occasion. (e.g. National Day)

4. Source.

Search for articles with the selected source in terms of where the article is published.

5. The other Field are same as 'STARS Search'.

Retrieving of Speech details

To retrieve the speech detail from the result list. Click on the speech title hyperlink to view the speech details. To return to the result list click on the back icon.

Viewing of the Document

Click on the image button beside the Title to view the PDF document. If the PDF Document can't be displayed to your Browser, you can check if your workstation has been installed Acrobat(V4.0), or Acrobat must be installed after you have setup the Browser software. In some cases as this, you should download Acrobat from the first page of Result-List, and install it.

DJVU

NAS has started using DJVU as one of our dissemination formats as it has a higher compression ratio than PDF, hence it enables faster downloading for our users. Downloading of the DJVU browser is free of charge.
